Newport’s Jordan Ryan
edged her way to the Monmouthshire Girls’ title, holding off the chasing pack
to secure a two-stroke victory.
The Park Course at Dewstow Golf Club played host to the
event where spectators witnessed a tight ending to proceedings. Ryan completed her round with a gross 83, and did just
enough to stay ahead of Angharad Evans of St Pierre, club-mate Emma Miller and Parc’s
Katie Dwyer, all of whom carded an 85.
Newport's Jordan Ryan is presented with her
trophy by Judith Wenman,
vice captain of Monmouthshire Ladies County Golf Association.

Rhian Morgan scored the best net for the competition with a 68,
playing off a handicap of 20. She was closely followed by Sophie Madsen of St
Mellons who scored 71, playing off a handicap of 24.
Llanwern’s Nia Glanville won the competition for girls under
the age of 12, scoring a net 75 off a handicap of 30. There was also a separate
competition for younger girls who played nine holes off forward tees, with another
Newport prospect, Megan Vineall, finishing first ahead of Erin John of Tredegar
Park.
Remarkably, 10-year-old Erin Lyons of St Mellons scored a
birdie on the par-three ninth hole known as ‘Peaches’, quite an achievement for
a young girl who has yet to obtain her handicap.
