Conwy's pitches wrecked by festival

Bodlondeb Park churned up by music festival

Conwy Cricket Club’s season has been thrown into disarray after the council-owned pitches they play on were ruined by a local festival and bad weather, turning the field into a mud bath.
The annually held Bluegrass festival has gone ahead at Bodlondeb Park in previous years causing no damage to the North Wales Division One side's playing surface, but the heavy rain has turned the public park into a virtual paddy field.
Iwan Davies, Conwy Council Chief Executive, said specialist contractors would be looking how best to repair the site, although no time scale has been mentioned as to when the pitches will be playable again.
"The council will work with the cricket club to help find alternative venues while the pitch is unavailable," said Mr Davies.
"Conwy County Borough Council is responsible for the park area and making good the surface in a suitable manner.”
Meanwhile, Conwy CC are turning their attentions to finding suitable venues to hold their remaining fixtures with all three of their scheduled matches going ahead this weekend.
“Thanks to the North Wales cricket family coming to the rescue, all three games are going ahead this weekend. Support much appreciated,” said the club's official twitter account.
More worryingly for the Division One side, who also have teams in Division Four and Sunday League, will be the lack of income from extra costs and bar takings but with the cricket family behind them, allwalessport are hoping for a happy ending for Conwy.
