Monmouth have top spot in sight


Monmouth remain on course to over-haul Hafodyrynys at the top of Division Five East thanks to try bonus 31-17 win at Blackwood Stars.
The high fliers crossed four times through a Gareth Morgan brace, with Ed McCode and Mike Griffiths also crossing, while Rhys Ricketts added all four conversions and a penalty.
Meanwhile, third placed Ynysddu finished their league programme with a disappointing 19-12 loss at Brynithel.
The hosts outscored their rivals three tries to two with touchdowns from Leighton Jones, Sean Pitt and Ashley Parfitt, with the latter also adding two conversions.
Ynysddu did bag a losing bonus point to end their season on a total of 96 points, with their touchdowns coming from Aaron Morgan and Daniel Morgan.
Elsewhere, Bettws comfortably saw off Trinant with a 24-10 home victory.
Bettws, who still have two matches remaining in the league, crossed three times through Aiden Stephenson, Wayne Whitehead and Anthony Mathias, while Tom Hurley added nine points with the boot.
Penlan celebrated receiving the Division Five South West trophy from the WRU with a convincing 43-6 home victory over Baglan.
The Swansea side, who have lost just once in their campaign, helped themselves to seven tries through Luke Davies, Booby Scrine, Dean Davies, Kurt Belardo, Robert Di’lulio and a Jason Garmey double.
