RADYR brothers Brent and Chris O’Neill lifted the Victory Shield
at Royal St David’s yesterday, the first time the club has won the event in 42
years.
The siblings beat Pontnewydd duo Tim Hayward and Mark
Skinner 5&4 in the final on the Harlech course, the venue for the Welsh
Amateur Championship which started today.
“It was nice to come through quite convincingly in the end,”
said Chris, the younger of the two by 10 years. “They pushed us hard but we
made the fewer mistakes and that’s what counts.”
The O’Neills reached the final with a nervy one-hole victory
over Wrexham pair Gareth Evans and Alyn Torrance while Hayward and Skinner
overcame Pontypridd’s Luke Thomas and Daniel Pickering 2&1.
