Swalec Leagues Round-Up

In the haziness of the April sunshine, spectators may have been forgiven for thinking they were watching cricket rather than rugby, with an incredible five teams notching up centuries in the Swalec Leagues on Saturday.

FOUR WEST: Veteran fly-half Barry Thomas helps Nantgaredig to a  31-10 win at Burry Port

Ynysddu, Glyncoch, Newton, Cambrian Welfare and Sully Sports were the guilty parties as they let loose on Blaina, Blaengarw, Holyhead, Tongwynlais and St Julians HSOB respectively.
The biggest winning margin of the day came courtesy of Ynysddu, who notched up 134 points, with Matthew Brown claiming 44 of his own that included 17 conversions.
However, individual performance of the day went to Glyncoch’s David Jones, who ran in nine of his side's tries.
The battle for the Two East title took a new twist, with Nelson moving up to second in the table with a 29-17 win over fellow highfliers Rhiwbina.
The Unicorns were magical in attack and crossed five times through Alun Williams, Ross Bevan, Ryan Jones, Ben Cullen and James Spear. Nelson now sit three points off leaders Bedlinog, though also have a match in hand over the pacesetters.
The Foxes claimed their 13th victory of the season as they demolished Llanishen 40-3, with Luke Morgan grabbing a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Builth Wells opened up a six point lead at the summit with a 34-6 win away at Aberystwyth. The Bulls ran in five tries through Ben Duggan (2), Gethin Davies, Rob Lloyd and Gavin Jones.
In an ill-tempered derby affair, Maesteg Quins took home the bragging rights as they fought off local rivals Maesteg 34-10 in Two West.
Lewis Tutt was at the double for the Quins, while Dan Hughes, Lee Ronan and Andrew Healey also crossed. The hosts, however, did end the game with only 13 players on the field, after Healey and Nathan Smith were both given straight reds, as the Quins conspired to win the fight on the field both figuratively and literally.
Trailblazers Amman United look almost certain to claim the Three West title after they widened their advantage to 15 points at the summit thanks to a 61-12 nine try thrashing of Pontyberem.
United’s Jonny Bevan claimed four for the hosts while Dean Williams(2), Richard Donne and Chris Rees also crossed.
In Three South West, Pencoed claimed their seventh straight bonus point win of the new year as they ran in seven tries in a 48-20 home success over Vardre.
