Championship Predictions Week 6

Bargoed v Llanharan

Bargoed were made to work to maintain their perfect start to the season last week against UWIC, and will face another tough test when they entertain the Dairymen tomorrow. Llanharan have had a solid start to the season and currently sit third after recruiting well during the summer. However, I think the hosts will improve from last week’s display to record a bonus point win.

Verdict – Bargoed by 7 points.

Beddau v Glamorgan Wanderers

Beddau have lost their last two games narrowly and will see their encounter against the Wanderers as a perfect opportunity to return to winning ways. The Wanderers have also suffered this season with a lack of cutting edge, their coach Matthew Bolton admitting, “We are creating enough chances to win games but seem incapable of finishing them off.” With both teams improving week by week, I think it will be a close call but my money’s on Beddau’s first home win of the season.

Verdict – Beddau by 6 points.

Blackwood v Ebbw Vale

The seemingly unstoppable Steelmen juggernaut rolls into Glan-Yr-Afon tomorrow, with Blackwood having the unenviable task of halting their advance while attempting to record their first win since the opening day of the season. With a promise of fine weather, you would have to be brave to bet against the visitors.

Verdict – Ebbw Vale by 20 points.

Bonymaen v Tata Steel

Tata Steel have recovered from a disappointing start to the season by their standards and looked more like the team who claimed the One West title last season in their comfortable win over Blackwood last time out. Although both teams sit mid-table, I can only see one winner here tomorrow.

Verdict – Tata Steel by 15 points.

Bridgend Athletic v Cardiff Met

The students were unlucky not to upset Bargoed last week and will fancy their chances of bagging their fourth win. With a new influx of freshers looking to impress, I think it will be a long day for Bridgend Athletic if they play an expansive game into the visitors’ hands. Having said that, Athletic will take heart in their narrow win at Pontypool last week and will be hoping for another slice of luck tomorrow.

Verdict – Cardiff Met by 10 points.

Newbridge v Pontypool

Pontypool were within the width of a rugby post of recording their first win in the Championship last week but will be up against a much stronger opposition in Newbridge. Newbridge will be disappointed to have lost by such a big margin to Ebbw Vale last week and will be looking to once again to stamp authority over proceedings.

Verdict – Newbridge by 25 points.

Whitland v Narbeth

This West Wales clash sees struggling Whitland still searching for their first win, although they did half their run of defeats with a draw at Glamorgan Wanderers last week. Narberth are currently the best placed West Wales side in the division and will be counting on picking up their fourth win tomorrow. However they know best not to underestimate their rivals as in local derbies anything can happen.

Verdict Narberth by 10 points
