Carew too good for Haverfordwest

Carew capitalised on  Neyland’s draw at Cresselly to extend their advantage at the top of Division One of the Pembroke County Cricket League.
The leaders were far too strong for fourth-placed Haverfordwest in their bank holiday clash, skittling their opponents for 85 before getting the runs required for the loss of one wicket.
Tom Davies (5-13) and Matthew Phillips (4-18) blitzed Haverfordwest with only Dan Field (24) and Adam James (20) making any score of note. A knock of 43 by Ian Sefton saw hosts Carew cruise home and open a seven-point gap on Neyland.
They were held to a draw at Cresselly, though their dominant position at the close of play saw them claim 23 points as the home side clung on at 114-9. Andrew Miller took 4-19 while Andrew Harries (26) top-scored for Cresselly. Earlier, Greg Miller’s 39 and 27 not out from Sean Hannon saw Neyland post 164-7.
A superb 101 by Whitland’s Dylan Blain helped his team to 243-9 against Saundersfoot while Simon Wood recorded figures of 4-52 for the visitors. In reply, Tom Richards scored 39 and Ian Poole 38 but the club in third could only manage 204-8.
It was a good day for the teams at the foot of the table as Narberth secured 19 points in their draw at St Ishmaels. An unbeaten 51 from Mike Scale was the foundation of Narberth’s 164-7 and in reply the hosts were 125-5 at the close with Andrew Williams making 44.
A six-wicket haul for Darren Brick, plus four for Ollie Davies, saw Llangwm bowl out Lawrenny for 140 despite James Buckle and Matthew Lewis hitting 50s. Llangwm, thanks to useful contributions from Alistair Platten (53) and Luke Brock (42), coasted to victory by eight wickets.
In division two, stunning figures of 7-25 from Llanrhian’s Matthew Bennett gave the leaders a 74-run win against Hook, who were all out for 66 chasing 141. Rivals Burton edged home by two wickets against Carew seconds, who made 158 batting first.
Phil Sutton’s 42 and 34 from the bat of Richard Jones aided the Carew reply but the team in second were eight down when they crept past the winning post.
There were also wins for Cresselly seconds and Johnston over Herbrandston and Haverfordwest seconds by 118 runs and seven wickets respectively – Scott Arthur blasted 92 for Cresselly and Gary James took 7-19 for Johnston.
And Pembroke secured 20 points from their draw with Whitland seconds after scoring 198-8 batting first.
