A dramatic
penalty by outside half Matthew Murphy with the last kick of a terrific SWALEC
Cup first round tie at the Dairy Field earned Tondu a draw and they go through
on try count to play premiership high flyers Llandovery in the second
round on February 15.
It was cruel
luck for Llanharan who led for most of the match and who were pounding away at
the Tondu line as full time approached but a turnover saw the Waterwheelers
launch a last ditch attack from their own line with winger Mark Roberts and
centre Joseph Gatt which was only stopped in the home 22.
Llanharan
infringed and Murphy kicked the penalty which took Tondu into the second round.
Outside half
Cody Rees kicked three first half penalties for Llanharan to an interception
try by Murphy which he also converted but the home side should have had a
bigger half time lead for their domination than
9-7.
Tondu roared
into the lead with a n56th minute try by scrum half Gareth Lindenburn converted
by Murphy but the Dairymen came back with tries by winger Rhys Walker and Rees
but Rees just failed to land either conversion.
Back came
Tondu with a try by No 8 Ashton Evans from a smart floated pass by Murphy who
just missed the conversion but he more than made up for that by kicking the
decisive penalty which turned out to be the last kick of an exciting tie.
SCORING:
Llanharan: Tries – R Walker, C Rees; Pens – C Rees (4)
