Worcester 2 Colwyn Bay 0

The Seagulls' stylish start to their Blue Square North campaign suffered a setback yesterday when Worcester extended their unbeaten record with a 2-0 victory.

The Welsh visitos had the best of the opening exchanges and looked lively, but were hit by a quick-fire double midway through the first half which put the brakes on their hopes of an away day success.

The Seagulls thought things were going to go their way early on, as three good chances went begging with Kevin Holsgrove, Mike Lea and Danny Lloyd all coming close for the visitors. Then, Bay had a strong penalty appeal turned down on 15 Minutes when Holsgrove appeared to have been brought down from behind, but the referee looked unmoved.

Worcester, who looked blunt in attack took an unlikely lead in a rare attack, the hosts were awarded a free kick 25 yards out and dead ball specialist Tom Thorley stepped up to curl a stinger into the top corner, with debutant keeper Dominic Comrie left helpless.

Things went from bad to worse six minutes later when Worcester beat the offside trap which allowed Danny Glover to race through on goal, before being adjudged to have been brought down by Comrie, recruited from Preston North End.

The young stopper was dismissed for the foul and replacement Tom Smythe was sent the wrong way from Glover’s spot kick.

Despite having a man advantage for almost an hour, Worcester could not add to their tally as the Bay defence held firm. Both sides finished with ten men, the hosts having Gregg Mills sent off in the 83rd minute for a second bookable offence."
